Fish Oil!!!!
It’s the time in my cycle where I sub out Evening Primrose Oil for Fish Oil. I was REALLY nervous about it.
As you can see, it’s liquid form and I had to take a TBSP of it. It says to take it with food so I made sure to eat my breakfast and then I took all my supplements except for the fish oil and my probiotics. I mix the probiotics in water and they actually taste pretty good so I figured it could be my chaser.
I seriously had to talk myself into taking the fish oil. I measured it out (it was much more liquidy and less thick than I imagined it would be), plugged my nose, and went for it. Guess what? It tasted like ORANGE.
It has orange peel oil in it and doesn’t even taste like fish! I DO have a fishy aftertaste in my mouth now and that is a bit disconcerting.
Last night I made some beans and rice. I had had these puppies:
soaking since Sunday. I got them when I went to the Farmer’s Market with Stacy and Beth. Don’t they look like they have cow spots?
They taste very similar to pinto beans and so I made some beans and rice. I cooked them in the crockpot with some veggies and then seasoned them up once I got home.
This was delicious. I gave Lu a similar sized portion (without the spinach) but added cheese and she ate all of it and asked for more. It was a hit! Shaun liked it a lot too. He gave it a 3. I kinda just mixed a bunch of stuff together until it tasted right so a recipe will have to wait until the next time I make it.
I do want to do a post on how I’ve been cooking beans and I know that I owe you a recipe from Sunday night’s dinner. Things have been quite hectic both at work and home but I will be posting that recipe. Believe me, it’s WORTH the wait 🙂
Speaking of hectic, later!
But first, have you ever taken fish oil? If so, what was your experience?

Brave lady! I am happy to hear it wasn’t so bad!!!
Did you sleep well after that one night of insomnia?
Pat and I both take fish oil. Pat has high cholesterol and he started taking it when I was preggo with Connor and had the lowest cholesterol reading in 10 years at his next checkup – even the doctor asked what he was doing (and he’s been on a low fat, no red meat diet and has been on lipitor for all of those 10 years). I take it on and off but took it religiously in the third trimester with Connor – it’s supposed to help in neurological development in fetuses, I think? My midwife recommended it. We never had any of the nasty fish after taste either. I seriously think it’s the miracle medicine!
yikes, that fish oil would scare me to death…i give my dogs fish oil tablets and then they burp and it stinks up the house! good thing i don’t do that after i take mine!
Hi Chelsea!
This is Erin’s sister, Sara. I’ve been following (i.e. stalking) your blog since she told me to check it out a few weeks ago. I’m a large fan of fish oil and think it tastes fine. I told Erin to tell you that it wasn’t bad so you wouldn’t be freaked out, but I see she didn’t! :p
When I picked up a new bottle of oil the other day the clerk at Whole Foods asked how I liked to take the oil. I was confused, because I just put it on a measuring spoon and swallow it. Apparently the guy is a new convert and likes to ask customers for suggestions; he stirs it into yogurt!
Anyway, keep up the good work with the blog – I love all the recipes and healthy eating ideas!
i don’t take fish oil, but that orange taste would surprise me too! kinda like heather, we feed maddy fish based food and her breath is stinky for a little while after eating…did the taste in your mouth pass?
how is the rest of your treatment going? the brushing and the socks? still feeling good about everything?
🙂
I take fish oil in capsule form. What is the benefit of taking straight from the spoon? I would also love to have the bean cooking approach you have. I love traditional beans, but haven’t figured out how to cook them without the stinky side effects. Loves!!!
Haha, you towel-on-head pictures really cracked me up. I’ve never tried fish oil, but I normally have a pretty high tolerance for funky tasting stuff. Glad to hear it wasn’t TOO bad for you!
wow! i can’t believe you drank fish oil! and that it tasted like oranges!
I have been taking fish oil with my prenatal–but I always forget…I am horrible at taking anything in pill form.
