Sushi Friday
It’s becoming a tradition to get take-out sushi on Friday-I like this tradition 🙂
Here’s the spread:
A close-up of one of the boxes:
That’s an avocado, yam, and cucumber roll for Lu, a summer roll (spicy tuna topped with tuna sashimi), and a rainbow roll. We also got a cherry blossom (California roll, wrapped with tuna and topped with seaweed salad), a winter roll (fresh crab on top of a tempura shrimp and cucumber roll) and some yakitori for Lu.
Lucy enjoyed dinner:
This is what her rolls start off looking like:
And when she’s done with them:
She eats all of the inside and a lot of the rice and that’s it-it’s very cute. When we don’t get her a roll she BEGS for ours and since ours are raw, we get her her own.
Here’s the damage we did:
I ate all of the seaweed salad, 2 pieces of the cherry blossom, the rainbow roll, and the summer roll, 1 piece of the winter roll, and 3 of Lucy’s roll-what she didn’t eat. I feel just the right amount of fullness and Shaun has a nice lunch for tomorrow.
I HATE that they use styrofoam though :( I wish they’d use recyclable containers.
Jill mentioned on my earlier post that she misses sushi (she’s preggers). I missed sushi SO MUCH when I was pregnant. It was my FIRST real meal after having Lu. Elaina brought it to me in the hospital-it was wonderful. Hang in there Jill-it’s worth it!
After dinner I made one of my No Cook Oatmeal Treats (I had one of these last night too that I forgot to report). I was going to wait until later to eat it but it was calling my name, so I ate it:
And I’m done with food for the night. I feel like I ate alot today but I was hungry when I ate and I had a great workout this morning.
If I can convince my husband to get off of the XBox, we’re going to watch Julie and Julia tonight-can’t wait! Unfortunately, he can, so we’ll see if this happens.

I think you are a prime example of a parent whose kid will eat anything because you LET her try stuff! How many kids won’t eat sushi because their parents say, “oh, you won’t like that.” I love that she eats so many diverse things!
omg I am with BethT I HATE when parents say “oh you don’t like that’!!
And I am glad Iam np the only one with a husband who plays video games (casey is a PS3 guy though). And You MUST watch Julie and Julia!!! Loved it!
i LOVE sushi…i need to go get some soon this weekend!
Rainbow Roll = <3
Sasha loves sushi too. We get her Philadelphia rolls, she loves rice and will suck the seaweed clean.
When I was PG I ate sushi about once a week. I made sure I ordered fully cooked fish, and stayed clear of anything with shellfish because Andy has a severe allergy.
Drool…
we do chinese food on fridays. i say “jenna, it’s friday, that means chinese food” and she says “mmmmmmm.” we get steamed dumplings and chicken chow mei fun and split it. i came home tonight, and she went running for her chair 🙂
J loves sushi, too! Awesome looking dinner, Chels!
I have never had real sushi but have always wanted to. I think Ava would like the california rolls.
I’m with everyone else – I love how Lucy is such an adventurous eater! I think my parents fell into the “oh you won’t like that category” because there are certain things I can’t handle – and one of them is, unfortunately, sushi. It’s such a shame, it looks so yummy and sounds amazing too, and for some reason I just don’t like it. I so wish that I did. Maybe I just haven’t had good sushi yet.
I used to have a cat named Sushi, lol…
How cool that Lucy eats sushi with you all. Our girls love trying new foods but Aubree is so picky I have never thought about trying a roll that way. Can’t wait until next time we go and I will try it. Thanks to you and Lucy she is finally trying banana’s and last night I bought some fresh ground Alm butter to try out. You are great at exploring and sharing, I love it! Thank you :0)
Yummy! We like this tradition. Very cool
I love the tradition. I ate a lot of sushi while I was home for Winter Break. Can never have too much =)
