Sicko
Shaun’s home sick-poor dude. He had to go to work at 11:30 last night and didn’t get home until 12:40. He woke up this morning feeling pretty bad. It looks and sounds like he has what I had last week. I foresee lots and lots of sleeping on the couch, Peggle playing, and TV watching in his future. I always find it funny that his sickness is so much worse than mine. I think boys are just big babies 😉
I got up this morning to go to Bootcamp. Beforehand I toasted some gluten free bread with fruit sweetened blackberry jam and raw pecan butter.
It was really good. Rich tasting. I could have sworn that there was butter in this bread, but nope, no butter. It is sort of calorie dense with 110 calories per slice and it’s pretty small.
I do not have big hands.
You know it’s been awhile since you’ve washed your whites when your gym socks look like this:
Meh, they worked.
Boot camp was pretty good. I felt like it was aerobics more than boot camp but whatever. I had my heart rate strap ON but I forgot my watch. Doh. It would have been cool to compare my heart rate from today’s class to yesterday’s spin class. It wouldn’t have been as high but maybe pretty close.
After class I put 1/4 cup gluten free oats, 1/4 cup unsweetened almond milk, 1/4 cup water, a dash of cinnamon, and vanilla in the microwave for 2 minutes. It exploded and then had to be zapped for another 30 seconds and then covered for 2 minutes. I think making it in the pan would actually be faster and have less clean up in the long run. I mixed in about 2 tsp of maple syrup and then topped it with some chopped cashews, coconut butter, and strawberries.
That’s my bowl after I cleaned it up. Ick. I didn’t eat all of this because Lu woke up and wanted some of Mommy’s breakfast. I’d say she ate about a fourth of it. Sharing breakfast was really sweet and such a great moment. I went into her room after she woke up and she stood in the crib while I ate my oats and we shared. She loves to hang out in her crib in the morning for a bit so this was perfect.
Lastly, two follow-ups on yesterday’s posts. First, did you notice how many things I made for dinner? It was a lot-meatloaf (one for me with no ketchup, one for Shaun and Lu with ketchup), green beans, mashed potatoes, corn, cauliflower, and rice. Last night was Shaun’s night to do the dishes and look what I did to my poor husband:
That’s ALL from last night. I try to be much better about this but last night was a big fail in the dishes department. I think dinner was worth it though 🙂
And finally, MANY of you commented on the canisters that I got this weekend. I got them at Target for $3 a pop. That’s much better than the $10 a pop that Bed, Bath, and Beyond wanted to charge me. They’re glass and the lid has rubber in it to form a good seal. I think $3 is a steal!

$3 is a great deal! i think i know what i’m doing on my lunch break today… 🙂
hope the husband feels better soon!
My mom and dad just had the same illness and it was so interesting to see how differently they each handled it. She just powered through, coughing away, but he had to stay home from work for two whole days. When men fall, they fall hard!
Chelsea! I caught up on all your posts on the plane ride (an amazing feat- you write a lot haha!) I knew I had to read every single one though because of your doctor appointment! What a quack!
OK, I don’t actually think she is a quack, but it is so incredible that a normal doctor probably wanted to give you a pill, and the naturopath is suggesting all of these amazing things. I bet they work. I am SO excited for you and so happy that you made the time to go take this appointment AND that you are following the advice so closely! I hope you feel better asap.
I wonder if she told you what the foot treatments are to correct?
My mom’s cousin in Italy went to a natural doctor once who put her on this very interesting diet where she had to eat certain foods in certain orders at certain times of the day, and her illnesses were cured. She now feels better than ever even though she has to meticulously follow this diet at least 5 days in a row per week.
Also, for a sweet.. how about these ideas:
-a small piece of very dark chocolate (won’t contain dairy)
-an orange
-2 strawberries blended with a few cubes of ice and some fresh squeezed orange juice for a mini smoothie?
-a piece of real coconut
By the way did I ever mention my traditional doctor story? When my mom passed away I went for an annual physical and the doc knew my mom had passed. She asked how I was doing and I said I cried a lot every day. She told me I was depressed and needed Paxil. I took it for 2 weeks before I realized that she was an idiot and it was NORMAL for me to cry every day!!!!!! I felt like such a zombie on it and I KNEW I didn’t need it- grieving is normal.
Anyway, ever since then I am very skeptical of traditional doctors for lots of things. Western medicine is great for certain things, but Eastern medicine always seems to solve the issues that Western medicine can’t.
Just ate some of that chocolate orange chocolate you sent. It’s FAB dark chocolate!!
Men are such babies! At least your socks were the same brand 🙂 Have you tried the skin brushing yet? I am interested to hear your take on that.
it’s always so weird when my husband is sick (he rarely is). babying him isn’t something i’m used to!
Just found your site and read your “About” page. I love how honest you are! Your story is very inspiring.
My husband is the biggest baby when he is sick. We stay up all night doing a candle light vigil for his recovery. But when I’m sick? Nothing changes. 🙂
